"Arshin Mal Alan" is the third and last musical comedy by the great composer Uzeyir Hajibeyli. The libretto for the work, written in 1913, was also authored by Uzeyir Hajibeyli himself. The main theme of the operetta revolves around the profound and sincere love between the spirited main characters, Asgar and Gulchohra. The depth of the narrative and the richness of the musical development bring "Arshin Mal Alan" closer to the genre of comic opera. To reveal the characters and individuality of the main protagonists, the great composer primarily uses arias. The performance includes arias that express love, passionate enthusiasm, patriotism, and despair. The musical comedy also features other distinctive characters, such as Suleyman, Asya, Jahan khala, Sultan bey, Telli, and Vali, each with their unique traits. Another innovation in the work is Uzeyir Hajibeyli's creation of a style of national harmony, with the use of polyphonic writing techniques.
"Arshin Mal Alan" was staged by Elvin Mirzayev in 2009 and held a special place in the theater's repertoire until November 2010. After the theater's building was closed for renovations in 2010, the performance of "Arshin Mal Alan" was suspended. On March 10, 2017, the play was presented in a new edition.
