The “Khatiba Inanj” play was performed at the Academic National Drama Theatre. According to the theatre’s press service, the two-part play is a new stage adaptation by Chingiz Aleskerli based on the novel “Sword and Quill” by the prominent Azerbaijani writer Mammad Said Ordubadi.
The play is dedicated to the unrequited love of Khatiba Inanj, the daughter of Ganja’s ruler, for Sheikh Nizami. After Sheikh rejects her love, Khatiba’s heart fills with hatred for everyone. Driven by this hatred, Khatiba marries Muhammad Jahan Pahlavan without love and has a son named Kutlug.
It is worth mentioning that the novel “Sword and Quill” was first adapted for the stage by the notable director Tofiq Kazimov in 1977.
